The Rising Star Award

The Ohio River Valley Clinical Social Work Society is a local professional organization for clinical social workers in the Greater Cincinnati area. The mission of ORVCSWS is to develop, advance, and promote excellence in all clinical social work practice settings for the benefit of clients and the clinicians who serve them. ORVCSWS advances and promotes the practice of clinical social work through continuing education, collegiality, and professional action in Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana. One project of ORVCSWS is to encourage social work students to excel in their academics and their clinical field placement experiences.

The ORVCSWS Rising Star Award seeks to recognize a first year MSW student who has shown a strong commitment to clinical social work. ORVCSWS will honor a student who had to overcome significant obstacles to enter the social work graduate program, and has shown great progress in his/her direct practice field placement experience. We are asking field placement/clinical practice class faculty to nominate a first year (or equivalent) MSW student who meets the following criteria:
  • Has overcome significant obstacles to enter graduate school and to remain in the graduate program
  • Shows a commitment to ethical clinical practice
  • Demonstrates an ability to conduct thorough interviews, to complete assessments and formulate appropriate interventions sensitive to the individual/family/group client
  • Demonstrates beginning clinical knowledge and conceptual understanding in the helping process
  • Recognizes the need for, appropriately utilizes, and values supervision
  • Demonstrates an interest in the larger issues of clinical practice

The recipient of "The Rising Star Award" will receive:
  • A $ 100.00 gift
  • 1 year membership in ORVCSWS
  • Acknowledgement at the May ORVCSWS Award Reception
  • Special recognition at his/her subsequent college graduation the following year
